Berylex Cementing Compound

Berylex Cementing Compound with portland cement will bond old concrete to old concrete, or new to old, with a bond as strong as the pieces joined, and highly resistant to the action of water or waterborne acids and salts. The same protection, the same bond, exists inside the Berylex concrete and between all the particles of the Berylex mix.

These benefits exist in all mixes containing Berylex Cementing Compound and are increased as the proportion of Berylex is increased.

Berylex Cementing Compound gives to concrete an increased resistance to acid attack. Neither Berylex Cementing Compound nor anything else can make concrete “acid-proof”, but in any service for which concrete is suited, Berylex Cementing Compound can be successfully used to overcome the costly effects of acid attack, both for new work and in patching.

The protection given to concrete by Berylex Cementing Compound is developed by the three separate means: The hardness of the paste and its bonding capacity are greatly increased. Berylex Cementing Compound is desired to modify standard cement paste so that when cured and matured in concrete that paste will have the characteristics of a hard, impervious stone rather than the usual absorbent Iime-stone-quality of cured standard cement paste. The low-absorptive quality developed in properly cured cement paste containing Berylex Cementing Compound approaches that of granite.

In placing, the Berylex paste sticks to the particles of aggregate, giving reduced segregation and voids; plus greater slipperiness and closer compaction.

After placing, the paste will have less shrinkage in setting, and will leave fewer passageways for water into and through the concrete.

Berylex Cementing Compound in a concrete mix acts as a lubricant, like extra cement, so that good consolidation of a newly places mix is much less subject to bridging of particles. Even in a lean Berylex mix the aggregate particles are more completely and uniformly buttered with the paste and this paste tends to stick closely to the particles throughout the compaction and settlement of the mix.
Berylex makes the paste less hygroscopic and thus resists the passage of water. Free limes and salts from the cement or fines are fixed in the cured paste and are not subject to leaching.

Berylex Cementing Compound functions to “set” all the components of the paste so that when hardened and cured, all free limes and salts from the cement or fines tend to remain fixed and not subject to further solution.

Concrete made with Berylex Cementing Compound will contain no insoluble curds, artificial fillers, oils or fats; no “water-proofing” agents of any kind. The water-repellent qualities developed in concrete by Berylex are simply the results of the quality of the paste – – the extreme density of its substance and the absence of shrinkage in its setting.
